Connecticut Nutmeg Book Award -- 2009 list
Check out the full list of nominated books in the intermediate category:

Blood on the River: James Town 1607 by Elisa Carbone
Close Encounters of a Third-World Kind by Jennifer J. Stewart (!!!)
Eager by Helen Fox
Free Baseball by Sue Corbett
Golden and Grey: An Unremarkable Boy and a Rather Remarkable Ghost by Louis Arnold
Gossamer by Lois Lowry
The Homework Machine by Dan Gutman
MVP* Magellan Voyage Project by Douglas Evans
Shakespeare‘s Secret by Elise Broach
Three Good Deeds by Vivian Vande Velde

Yes! My book is on it! I am so grateful to members of the selection committee. You can find out more about the Nutmeg Book Award here.

This is the third state award nomination for Close Encounters of a Third-World Kind. I am starting to call it “the little book that could!”

P.S. It is also “the little book that could” that is now coincidentally in paperback, released by Holiday House.

Thanks, Debbie!

I would be doing cartwheels if I weren't such a middle-aged klutz.

Congratulations, Jennifer! And you're in great company -- some of my favorite authors are on that list! I'm actually reading BLOOD ON THE RIVER with my 7th graders right now.

Congratulations on the Nutmeg Nomination. From past experience it helps keep the buzz going. May your Amazon rankings always be low.

Hi Jennifer,
Congratulations on the Nutmeg award nomination!! I found this site because Blood on the River is also a nominee, and it's fun to connect with you (remember me from Warrensburg?)
Well, your book is fantastic, don't know if I've EVER laughed out loud so much while reading, and it's
absolutely heartfelt too. I'm proud to be in such illustrious company on this list. (and Jane Yolen says it's the nomination that sells books, we don't need to win :) )

Hope to see you in Warrensburg or another conference some time again.
all the best,
Elisa Carbone

Hi, Elisa,

I was going to tell you, but I didn't have your email address. I'm looking forward to reading your Jamestown book. Stealing Freedom is one of my all-time favorites.

Best wishes,
Jennifer J.
